On Sunday 24th July, BIG church held a special Summer celebration where all the songs and music were chosen by members of the congregation, with Elizabeth Bennett and Victoria Barnes playing the piano and flute in accompaniment. In addition to short readings and prayers, a Reflection written by the Archbishop of York was read aloud; it can be found here.
It had been arranged to hold a BBQ after the service; the weather forecast was good, and despite the blustery wind, Rupert Barnes found a sheltered spot in the churchyard to set up the barbecue! With burgers and sausages kindly provided by the PCC, and salads and desserts provided by the congregation, tables were quickly set out and chairs arranged.
The food was cooking while drinks were being served, and after a short time we were invited to collect our meal from the Chef! This was the first time BIG church had held a social event following a service, and all agreed that it is something we must plan to do again soon!
