From the new Family Development Minister – Debbie Godsell

We are delighted to announce Debbie is our new Family Development Minister. Debbie writes -

One of my favourite quotes is by Albert Einstein:

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

We can’t all be good at everything! Everyone has different and unique gifts and talents. Our bodies are a good example of this. Every part of our body plays a vital and yet very different role in helping our bodies to not just survive but to get the very best out of life. In the Bible, 1 Corinthians 12 tells us about the unity and yet diversity of the body.

When I asked my teenager children which part of the body they thought that they were they both said “The stomach because we love to eat”. This got me thinking that this is true of most teenagers and in fact most children. Children have a continuous need to be fed and will happily eat whenever they are given the opportunity. They need this food to help them to grow and without food their energy quickly fades.

As Christians, we should be feeding ourselves constantly with the word of God. We should be more like hungry children constantly wanting the sweet taste of His good news. We do not feed our bodies just once a week on a Sunday and so we should strive to find sometime during the day to feed our minds and get close to God.

It is true that we can’t all be good at everything and life would be very boring if we were all good at the same things. However, we should all be striving to be the same in one way – Being more like Jesus. Most of us lead extremely busy lives but we are called to be one body and to spend time together as a church and as individuals worshipping God. Children are a vital part of the Body of the Church and should be respected and welcomed into the church. We have a lot to learn from children’s openness, honesty and thirst for knowledge.

As the new Family Development Minister, I would like to take this opportunity to say that I am excited about what lies ahead for the West of Severn Benefice. It would be great to discuss ways in which we, as a church, can help families to deepen their faith and share fellowship with one another.
